Why Previous Treatment Hasn't Worked

Standard OCD treatment relies heavily on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP): deliberately facing feared stimuli while resisting the compulsion. ERP addresses the behavioral loop, but it doesn't address the underlying nervous system dysregulation driving it. The system still needs certainty. So the obsessions shift, morph, or return.

Cognitive approaches attempt to restructure the thought patterns. But for highly intelligent clients, intellectualization is the rumination. More cognitive tools feed the very machinery that's already running too fast. What's missing isn't insight. It's somatic capacity. The nervous system needs to learn that uncertainty is survivable, not just be told.
